Q. When will SAVE scholarship selection occur?

A. Actual selection of students will occur throughout the Pinellas Technical Education Center ’s calendar year. PTEC’s calendar is year-round, featuring five enrollment periods.

Q. What are the various scenarios for scholarship selection?

A. From time to time there are specific requests from sponsors for a certain campus, a certain geographic area, or a particular course of study. The Education Foundation will honor those requests in most cases. The remaining students are selected with non-specific funding dollars. The Foundation works closely with the SAVE counselors to ensure that students meet the requirements.

Q. How will information be communicated to potential SAVE students?

A. In cooperation with WorkNet Pinellas, the Foundation will communication for all middle and high schools in Pinellas County to conduct an awareness campaign of the benefits of technical education. The Foundation will also be producing a series of Public Service announcements through WPDS Channel 14.

Q. Which courses of study are allowable for SAVE?

A. The accepted courses of study are listed below. Not all programs are offered at each campus.

Q. What is the purpose of the resume section?

A. The resume section will benefit the SAVE sponsor, as an employer, and the SAVE student, as a potential employee. Resumes of participating students from a variety of courses of study will be available to SAVE sponsors. SAVE sponsors will be able to view and contact each student directly.

Q. What benefits will sponsors receive?

A. Besides the actual sponsorship of a student’s SAVE Scholarship, a sponsor will have the opportunity to attend the annual SAVE breakfast, receive recognition in the SAVE breakfast program and on our sponsor board, and be invited to visit the SAVE Program at either of the PTEC campuses. Also, each sponsor will receive a thank you letter from their students.

Q. I am a potential SAVE student- who do I contact for more information about SAVE?

A. There are two SAVE Coordinators, one at each PTEC campus.  Each campus offers different programs.  The SAVE Coordinator at the St. Petersburg campus is Rosena Ashwood-Harris.  She may be reached at 727-893-2500 x1059.  The SAVE Coordinator at the Clearwater campus is Millie Parker.  She may be reached at 727-538-7167 x1023.  Each SAVE candidate must meet with the SAVE Coordinator prior to being accepted into the SAVE Program.
