Doorways Statistics
- Students in grades 6th - 11th may be nominated for a Doorways Scholarship. If selected, they will earn a Florida Prepaid Scholarship by fulfilling a contractual obligation to attend school regularly, maintain at least a "C" in all classes, study for tests, complete homework assignments and remain crime and drug free.
- To be eligible for a Doorways Scholarship students must be on their school's approved free/reduced lunch list.
- Approximately $15 million has been contributed to the program.
- There are approximately 40,000 students in Pinellas County who are eligible for Doorways Scholarships.
- Doorways’ contributions go into the student’s Florida Prepaid College Scholarship (2 years tuition at a Florida public community college and 2 years tuition at a Florida public university) or technical school training.
- Doorways’ contributions will be matched with Education Foundation funds, thereby doubling a sponsor’s investment.
- In 1992, the program was started with ten students at Largo High School. Thanks to the generous support of this community, there are now over 2,500 students enrolled.
- Doorways has maintained a 85% retention rate in having students successfully stay on track through high school graduation.
- Caring sponsors have also provided scholarships for approximately 1,000 Doorways high school graduates who are achieving success in their careers and at area colleges and universities.
