Walker's Rising Stars - Vocal Requirements

 



Categories - All Vocal Styles accepted.

v Performances will be judged on over all artistic excellence as demonstrated by: tone quality, technique, communication, interpretation, diction, musicianship, stage presence, and expression.

v Music selected should be appropriate to the voice type, technical capabilities, and musical maturity of the student performer and show the student’s voice and capabilities to his/her best advantage.

v Each contestant MUST prepare TWO MUSICAL SELECTIONS.  Selections MUST be contrasting in mood, character, style and tempo. It is recommended that the two selections be of CONTRASTING MUSICAL GENRE (select from 2 different genres of music).  Both selections MUST BE MEMORIZED.

v Provide three copies of the music being performed with the measures clearly numbered on the day of the competition.

v A piano will be available. Participants are expected to furnish their own accompanists and page-turner. Taped accompaniments are permitted, but discouraged.

v If taped accompaniment must be used, students must bring their own compact disk or tape, which has only one piece on each disk or tape. The pieces must be cued.

v No obscene/vulgar language or gestures permitted for auditions and/or performances.
 

OVERALL PERFORMING ARTS REQUIREMENTS

 

v Competition performances should be 3 minutes minimum and 8 minutes maximum for the combined pieces.

v Competitors are judged on their overall skill, creativity and artistic expression.

v Students are encouraged to choose their best work. Do not choose works that are more difficult than your current level of proficiency to impress the judges.

v It is the responsibility of the competitor to obtain any necessary copyright permission.

v Open to SOLOISTS ONLY.

v No obscene/vulgar language or gestures permitted for auditions and/or performances.

v Applications will be reviewed for eligibility and competitors will be notified about audition dates and locations (Preliminary auditions will be held in either January or February, 2012).

Printed & signed application, Resume and Letter of Recommendation must be turned in to the Pinellas Education Foundation by November 11, 2011, the performing arts deadline.
