Walker's Rising Stars - Dance Requirements

 

Categories - Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Folk/Ethnic, Hip-Hop 

v Students must bring their own compact disk or tape, which has only one piece on each disk or tape.

v The pieces must be cued. Students should bring their own CD player capable of playing their personal CD.

v Students must perform TWO contrasting selections; two different styles of dance are highly recommended.

v There will be no costumes worn at the preliminary competitions. Practice dance apparel must be worn. Costumes will be necessary for the Finals Competition.

v Essential props are permitted if they are an integral part of the dance.

v Choreography need not be original.

v No obscene/vulgar language or gestures permitted for auditions and/or performances.

 

v Competition performances should be 3 minutes minimum and 8 minutes maximum for the combined pieces.

v Competitors are judged on their overall skill, creativity and artistic expression.

v Students are encouraged to choose their best work. Do not choose works that are more difficult than your current level of proficiency to impress the judges.

v The strongest competitors from each style of dance will be selected to move on to semi-finals.

v It is the responsibility of the competitor to obtain any necessary copyright permission.

v Open to SOLOISTS ONLY.

v No obscene/vulgar language or gestures permitted for auditions and/or performances.

v Applications will be reviewed for eligibility and competitiors will be notified about audition dates and locations (Preliminary auditions will be held in either January or February 2012).

Printed & signed application, Resume and Letter of Recommendation must be turned in to the Pinellas Education Foundation by November 11, 2011, the performing arts deadline.
