Sarah was nominated for her drive and genuine desire to help her students become the most successful that they can be. Sarah’s classroom sets the standard when it comes to writing and reading classrooms. On top of her daily teaching being a masterful example of what a reading and writing block should look like, the in-depth planning and continual tweaking of the content she is teaching to make it more accessible to more students is artful. Sarah creates her lessons through innovative technology such as the SMART Notebook software to make her lessons not only engaging to the students because of the interactive nature but clear. When it comes to monitoring student progress Sarah is incredibly organized by using daily exit feedback slips from her students as well as the use of her own teacher created writing conferencing sheet. There is never a wasted day, period or moment in her classroom. Everything she does with her students is full of purpose and meaning to each of them individually allowing them to become the best that they can be every moment of every day.
Not only is Sarah an asset to her students, she is also an asset to her professional and school community. Sarah recognized a need for her school to build better communities within their classrooms and developed a staff wide training on the use and benefits of Morning Meetings. Within her team Sarah has taken on the painstaking task of adapting the Reading and Writing lessons to the SMART board and providing them weekly for staff. Sarah truly defines what it is to teach with passion and dedication.
