Xavier Williams, Gibbs High '09 is a Doorways Scholar and sophomore at the University of Florida with a 4.0 GPA. Xavier pays it forward by serving as an inspirational speaker to Gibbs students. My name is Xavier Williams and I am a Doorways Scholar of the class of 2009. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Florida studying Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with a Specialization in Exercise Physiology on the Pre-Med Track. My first year at the University of Florida was a wonderful experience, experiencing many triumphs and defeats. I'm not sure if the foundation knows but I am also a Coca-Cola Skeeter Johnson Scholar, a Verizon Foundation Scholar, and a Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar. (I tried to inform the county of my accolades but was ignored.) These scholarships and my overall motivation to be successful pushed me to achieve success, as I finished my first year at UF with a 4.0 GPA both semesters. Also, I was honored by the University of Florida as a Gator of Tomorrow, a program through which the university honors the top 25 freshman of the freshman class of 6000. To lend a helping hand to other future scholars, I have spoken to many students, especially at my former high school, Gibbs High. I was asked to speak at the BETA program Graduation Breakfast where I gave students advice on how to deal with stress and many things I wish I would've known coming in as a freshman. I would like to thank the Doorways Foundation for giving me the opportunity to attend college and fulfill my dreams! Best, Xavier Williams University of Florida |
