News - Pinellas County Teachers Win with the Lightning
| Pinellas County teachers honored as finalists in the January Educator of the Year Awards enjoyed a preview of Olympic Hockey play when they were treated to a Tampa Bay Lightning game night. On Tuesday, February 9 the Lightning faced off against the Vancouver Canucks at the St. Pete Times Forum. Educator of the Year Finalists and their guests watched the excitement from the comfort of two private luxury suites provided to the winning educators through the courtesy of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Lightning Foundation are committed to supporting programs that enhance the lives of children across the Bay area,” said Kasey Smith, Executive Director of the Lightning Foundation. “The educators honored in the Pinellas Education Foundation Evening of Excellence are to be congratulated on their outstanding service and all the work they do day in and day out. | It was an exciting night for the transplanted teachers who grew up playing hockey on local ponds and follow the sport with religious fever and the couple of teachers who confessed to attending their first game ever. | |
| With Stamkos establishing an early lead with the games first goal eight minutes into the first period, the Lightning won the game with three goals to the Canucks single goal. Martin St. Louis scored his first goal of the night nearly three minutes into the third period managing to push the team back into the lead after the Canucks tied the game in the second. St. Louis then finished the night with his second goal in the final minutes of the game.
