Kathy was nominated for her incredibly influential learning strategy that promotes professionalism and leadership among her students, colleagues, and community. Kathy never wastes a second of class time and interacts with students in a way that makes learning not only valuable, but fun. For the past 28 years, Kathy has instructed students of varying levels for her Adult Basic Education and General Educational Development courses. Ms. Rennie knows every student’s prescription for learning thoroughly and guides them in mastering the specific skills outlined. This method of instruction has been extremely effective and enabled Pinellas’ adult schools to become the highest GED diploma-generating program in the state. Kathy Rennie engages in the learning process with each student and works side-by-side with them until the knowledge and skills are internalized.
Kathy promotes the same sense of leadership among her colleagues. Under her leadership, Dixie Hollins AEC became the number one GED school in Florida; generating more than 800 diploma’s each year. At Tomlinson, Kathy promoted a reconfigured data-driven instructional model based on the results of student performance. She encouraged her colleagues to develop a deeper understanding of student learning styles and to focus on improving student’s motivation to learn. But her promotion of leadership doesn’t stop with the students and staff; it extends to her community. Kathy doesn’t accept things getting in the way of her student’s successes. Over the years she has worked diligently to form close professional relationships with leaders at St. Petesburg College, Operation Par, the Pinellas County Jail, pTEC, Youth Connect, the Salvation Army, and the Job Corps. Her networking activities have opened doors for her students that have enabled them successfully transition from her classroom to the workplace. Kathy Rennie is the best of the best adult education teachers as shown by her personal dedication to promoting professionalism and leadership among her students, colleagues, and community.
