Charitable Gift Annuities
Charitable Gift Annuities: Are They Right for You? |
|
| Foundation Forum - January 2011 | |
| • Charitable Gift Annuities (CGAs) are currently an attractive alternative to certificates of deposit. Once established, payments are made for life. Annuity rates, the rate for payments made to you, are based on age and are higher for more senior persons. In addition, two tax benefits add value to the CGA. You’ll receive a current income tax deduction. And second, part of each annuity payment we make to you may be tax free! • A special charitable donation provision remains in place through December 31, 2011. It allows individuals age 70½, or older to directly transfer assets from their IRA and donate them to qualified charities. Individuals may make a direct transfer from an IRA at any time in 2011, up to $100,000, without paying taxes on the gift. The direct transfer would also count toward the required minimum distribution for the year. The Foundation suggests that you discuss these options with your accountant or other trusted advisor to determine your potential benefit. If you have any questions about the Pinellas Education Foundation with regard to taking advantage of these opportunities, please feel free to contact Jacqulyn Schuett at 727-588-4816, ext. 2119. |
